Osteopathy Treatments

Osteopathy treatments can provide initial pain relief in the acute phase of an injury. The number of treatments required to achieve this can vary from a single treatment to a course of treatments, depending on each individual patient.

Osteopathy treatments are also used as part of a maintenance regimen to maintain or reduce stiffness and pain in chronic conditions to reduce repeat episodes or flare ups occurring. This is especially useful for patients with long standing or degenerative conditions.

Exercise Prescription

Included as part of your osteopathy treatment, prescribed stretches or exercises are usually given for you to do at home. This is supported by an email or printed programme, with pictures and written instructions. This is prescribed on an individual basis and not from a generic information sheet.

In addition to this, both patients and non patients have the option of a personally designed rehabilitative or fitness exercise programme. This can be useful to start a new or supplement an existing routine. The combined experience drawn from the fitness background of personal training consultancy with the regulated health background of osteopathy assures a safe and effective programme for all individuals.

Diagnostic Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Imaging

Diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging is an excellent way to see inside the body to visualise many structures in the arms and legs. These structures include muscles, tendons, nerves, ligaments, bursae, connective tissue and some aspects of joints and their cartilage. Feedback and scan interpretation is immediate. Ultrasound imaging can sometimes give more information than other scans, as dynamic movements can be used to test structures which can’t be done in static scans.

At Osteolife we use musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging as an adjunct to the osteopathic examination to ensure a thorough assessment of your problem. Ultrasound imaging is available in the upper limb from the shoulder to the hand and in the lower limb from the hip to the foot. You do not need a GP referral to access this or any other service at Osteolife.
